DME High School National took control of the game against Inspire Preparatory Academy to a 75-33 victory.

The 2020 trio helped lead the team with all scoring double digits, Keano Calderon scored 14 points and shot 100% from the three-point line shooting 3-3. Mayoum Mayoum had 12 points and Max Depina finished with 10 points, shooting 5-5 from the field.

HS National led the whole way, finishing the first half up 29 points, 45-16. National 2018 bigs also added 19 points to this win. Mame Niang finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block and Assane Diouf finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks.

Now on a 4-game winning streak, National looks forward to their next match Friday night at 7 pm against Ridgeview Prep Academy.

“This is great momentum for the team and it’s going to be exciting to see how we play against a great Florida team this Friday, it will be a great challenge”, Coach Dan Mondragon told us after the game.

HS National looks to better their record of 12-11 for next game.

DME High School Regional lost to Trinity Prep 65-58 Tuesday at Warner Christian.

Trinity Prep took control of the game with Regional trailing the whole way. Regional struggled the first half, shooting 1-10 from the field. Trying to hold on to a 9 point deficit, Regional finished the first half 31-40.

Starting the second half, Regional fought their way back in the game cutting the lead down to 4 points, with the help of Ronaldo Messam who had 12 points and Shem Gordon who had 11 points.

Toward the end of the fourth, Regional had the chance to cut the lead to 2 with a steal from David Ofori. However, Regional turned the ball over and Trinity Academy closed out the game with a 7 point lead.

Overall, Regional struggled all the way around, shooting 47 percent, 12-32, from the free throw line and 17-47 from the field. Regional will recover and get ready for their next game on Friday against Duval High School.

DME Girls suited up Saturday afternoon against The Rock School in their first SIAA home game of the season. DME dominated The Rock from the second quarter on, finishing 79-26.

DME got off to a slow start and led 13-6 after the first quarter. DME came out strong in the second quarter outscoring The Rock 17-4 in the quarter and never looked back,
Alexis Duckett got off to a hot start scoring 10 of her 16 points in the first half. Duckett added 7 rebounds and 3 assists and 4 steals.

Kyani Moore, who had foul trouble in the first half, ended with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Brianna Raynor also had a double-double, despite foul trouble as well, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomores Hilani Cantone and Mary McMillan picked up where they left off from their Washington DC trip. Hilani Cantone had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists and McMillan had 6 points to go with 11 assists.

DME added to their roster after Christmas break with the addition of sophomore Marissa Reulbach from Deland, Florida. In her debut, Reulbach had 12 points all in the second half. DME moved 8-4 on the season, and remain undefeated at home as well as in conference play. They host a talented Oak Ridge High School, January 11th, before leaving for Montgomery, Alabama for Martin Luther King Weekend.

DME High School National played in the McClay Holiday Hoops tournament this weekend finishing off with a 3-0 win claiming Holiday Champions!

DME started the tournament on Thursday playing against Franklin County and dominated with a 83-36 victory. Mame Diaw Niang had a double-double of 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Next game, National took on Archbishop High School Friday night at 7pm to compete for a spot in the championship game. Closing out a close game, National pulled out a 53-50 win and Niang led the team with 13 points.

Saturday afternoon, HS National suited up with host McClay High School for the championship game. Down one point at the half, National came out the second half and pressed the pedal to speed the game up. Gaining the lead in the third quarter, HS National never looked back and closed out the game early 71-59. Niang led National again with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Mayoum Mayoum had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

National took home the Holiday Hoops Trophy and Niang was named MVP tournament who averaged 18.6 in 3 games. Feeling the momentum of closing out the year with a tournament win, National looks forward to starting conference play!

The Mauro Panaggio Tournament started at noon with Wooster College and St. Joseph’s tipping off to an exciting matchup.

Wooster’s College pulled away from St. Josephs, 65-57, with dominant guard play from Spencer Williams, who shot 66 percent from the free throw line, finishing with 22 points and 6 assists. Next game, Whittier College fell short to Brockport 92-108 with Brockport’s front line dominating the game. Four out of five starters scored double digits, with all of them having fifteen plus points. Hamed Shamseldin had a triple-double of 23 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds. Justin Summers finished with 25 points, Josh Nelson had 22 points, and Tyler Collins had 15 points.

Monday was filled with teams ready to play to make a statement. Consolation game consisted of St. Joseph’s and Whittier at noon. Whittier trailed St. Joseph’s most of the way but Whittier pulled away 84-79 in the late second half. Championship game, Wooster and Brockport went head to head at 2 pm. Wooster overpowered 81-67 Brockport with defense and great guard play. Wooster’s Spencer Williams had a tournament-high with 25 points. He was also named All-Tournament, along with Alex Baptiste who had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Brockport Shamseldin scored 15 points and Justin Summers scored 16 points. Both Shamseldin and Summers were named All-Tournament for Brockport.

DME Sports Academy is set to host its first annual Mauro Panaggio Invitational Tournament with the attendance of Brockport College, ST. Joseph’s of Maine, Whittier College, and the College of Wooster.

Tipoff is set for Sunday at noon with The College of Wooster vs. St. Joseph’s College of Maine, following Brockport College vs. Whittier College at 2 pm.

Monday tipoff will follow the same schedule at noon and 2 pm as consultation games between the teams.

People in attendance will have the opportunity to witness talent in these Division 3 teams, including senior guard Spencer Williams who was named NCAC Player-of-the-Week on December 11 for The College of Wooster and Whittier College senior Eric Davis who was named SCIAC Athlete of the Week on December 11.

Saint Joseph’s College freshman guard Jack Casale, GNAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, will also be a good prospect to see this Saturday-Sunday tournament.

DME Post Grad and High School teams played ATL Combine Monday and Tuesday and finished off 5-1.

Starting off the series of games Monday afternoon, DME Post Grad White crushed ATL, 106-69, with Aiden Pashley finishing with 25 points, 4 rebounds, shooting 66 percent from the three-point line. Frank Kamgain had a triple-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

DME Post Grad Blue came right behind PG White with a victory, 70-65, as Jeremiah Gilyard was a key contributor with 26 points, three rebounds, and three blocks.

DME Prep Orange set the tone for the next day with a win, 76-69, against ATL Wednesday afternoon. Quan Byrd had 26 points and Ralph Fabius finished with a double-double of 13 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.

DME HS Regional could not hold on to ATL Combine, 64-57. Despite the loss, Rafael Martini led the team with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.

Next game, PG White took back control and won, 111-55, against ATL. Camren Wynter carried the team with 30 points, eight rebounds, three assists, shooting 55.5 percent from the field.

To close out, DME Blue broke ATL down in a 92-65 win Wednesday evening. Tyrese Potoma finished with 27 points, two assists, two steals, and shot 50 percent from the three-point line.

Mame Niang had a dominant performance of 34 points and 14 rebounds and DeAndre Harvey had 11 points and 6 assists.

With a team effort, hustling making some great defensive plays, DME National led the whole game, starting off with a 7 point lead in the first few minutes of the game. Harvey stepped up his game defensively, matching up with Julian Newman. When asked how he contained Julian Newman last night, Harvey talked about “playing with a statement and living up to the hype”.[/vc_column_text][stm_images_grid image_size=”300×200″ columns=”3″ load_by=”6″ images=”6163,6164,6165,6166,6167,6168″][vc_column_text]Despite them trailing all game, Downey Christian cut the lead to 3 points, 41-38, with DME making turnovers two minutes before halftime.

Coach Mondragon stated, “we just have to stick to the game plan,” to get their team back on track for taking home a win.

Start of the second half, Niang went down with a potential ankle injury but returned to the game later after medical treatment. “My team needed me and I had to have a tough mindset to play through it”, Niang told us after the game.

DME HS National pulled away with a nine-point lead, 95-84, and they are looking forward to proving more statements in the SIAA.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

HS National took home an exciting victory, 54-53, against Arlington Country Day that went down to the wire Tuesday night.

DeAndre Harvey scored 14 points and 5 rebounds, Nate Adcox finished with 9 points, and Marko Vukojčić scored 8 points.

HS National led most of the way, and Harvey led the offense, finishing with 5 assists.

It was a hard fought game on both ends. After the game, Coach Mondragon celebrated the win, saying “We just found a way to win in a tough environment.”

This was DME’s opening game in the SIAA conference play. They look forward to many more battles with SIAA being one of the toughest high school conferences in the country.

DME pulled out a close game in a double overtime thriller, 71-69.

Sophomore Brianna Raynor had a double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Kyani Moore also had a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

DME Girls led at half-time, 29-24, Alexis Duckett scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half to help DME get off to a good start.

In the second half, DME led by as much as 12 points but found themselves trailing by 3 points with 0:40 seconds left when Brianna Raynor converted on a 3-point play to tie the game, which sent the game into overtime, 60-60.

Both teams only managed to score 2 points in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Mary McMillan hit her only 3-pointer of the game to put DME up by four. West Oaks fought back and cut the lead to 1 with 0:15 left on the clock.

After Kyani Moore made one of two free throws, West Oaks had a chance to tie and win the game with 0:08 left but Nikulochkina’s shot attempt came up short and DME prevailed with a two-point victory on the road in their first SIAA conference game of the season against a very talented West Oaks team.
